WHY YOU WILL LOVE POSADA AMAZONAS?
The lodge
Highlights
Connect with the Native Community of Infierno and the protected forest of Posada Amazonas through unique activities. Embrace Tambopata's nature, and leave a positive impact on its people.
Since 1996, the Native Community of Infierno and Rainforest Expeditions have had a successful strategic alliance by developing our beloved Posada Amazonas, which within the pristine Amazon Rainforest, will connect you to the natural and cultural wonders of the Tambopata jungle.
When researching for a hotel in Puerto Maldonado, this jungle ecolodge with only 30 rooms offers a unique set of activities with ample opportunities to observe wildlife and discover ancient indigenous heritage.
Posada Amazonas is ideal for families with small children, cultural travelers, adventurers at heart, and nature lovers.
Your visit makes a meaningful direct impact on the Native Community of Infierno. The experience at the lodge let you climb a canopy tower 42 meters high with a breathtaking view. You can also visit the calm waters of Lake Tres Chimbadas and an the ethnobotanical Ñape center where the community will share with you their traditions.
Where is Posada Amazonas?
Posada Amazonas requires at least two hours of travel time. To begin your rainforest Amazon tour, you take a quick plane trip from Lima (1 hour and a half) or Cuzco ( 30 minutes) to the city of Puerto Maldonado, Southeast of Peru.
After we meet you at the airport, we'll take you to our office 5 minutes away to refresh yourself and prepare for the journey to the lodge.
After a 1-hour road trip, we will take a tranquil 1-hour boating through the Tambopata River to immerse ourselves inside the heart of the private communal reserve of the Ese Eja Native Community of Infierno.

Interesting bus and river boat rides bring you to Posada Amazonas on the Tambopata River. It’s managed by the Ese Eja indigenous community. Luis M., our guide, helped us observe birds and learn about plants and other animals. A canopy tower, clay lick and oxbow lake are highlights. All personnel are extremely kind and researchers give short lectures in the evening. The food is delicious! Excellent mosquito netting in rooms! Read all
The immersion experience was great. Be prepared though to feel hot and full of bug spray much of the time. Wear hiking pants. Not Lulu leggings (too hot). The guides are great and you can do as much or as little as you want. We saw a lot of animals. Read all
Posadas Amazonas is an eco-friendly lodge that makes a huge commitment to preserving the rainforest for generations to come. The food served (breakfast, lunch and dinner) is fresh and delicious! The staff is extremely knowledgeable and caring. A special shoutout to the lodge manager Cesar for ensuring that we had packed meals for the onward journey when we were delayed by a rain storm. The main attractions apart from the abundant wildlife are the canopy tower and nearby Oxbow lake. The canopy tower gives a great 360 degree view of the rainforest and we were fortunate to see monkeys and macaws from the vantage point. At the Oxbow lake we saw river otters and Caimans and we were able to catch a piranha fish as well. Overall, Posada Amazonas is a great lodge owned and operated by the native communities located in the amazing Amazon rainforest. Read all
I had an amazing time here. I was traveling solo and did 4 days/3 nights through Inca Expert Travel. It was an unforgettable experience! I opted for a group tour for the excursions and am glad I did. Our guide, Boris, was fantastic and made sure we saw as much wildlife as possible. I can't say enough good things about him. The rest of the staff were also very kind. I enjoyed the large variety of fresh food at each meal. I felt safe and well-taken care of the entire time. Read all
Shoutout to our guide Luis! We stayed 3 nights at the Posadas Amazonas Eco Lodge. The food and service was great. We’ve done around 3 tours a day with our guide Luis. Every tour was a little bit different. We’ve managed to see a lot of animals like sloths, birds, monkeys, etc. Highly recommend this place! Ps. Make sure to bring your binoculars! Read all

POSADA AMAZONAS LODGE is the perfect distance from Puerto Maldonado. Remote, yet accessible within 1.5 hours by bus and riverboat. Experience the 6th sense of native guides, such as Luis M., while on nature walks in the jungle. We were birding, but were shown so much more! Medicinal plants, majestic trees, Brazil nuts, river otters, capybaras, tarantulas, caterpillars, butterflies, frogs…. Organization of activities, accommodation, meals, managed by Cesar, was top notch. The canopy tower, clay lick with hide, oxbow lake are all nearby and reached by riverboat or jungle trails. The activities are geared to your interests. Lectures are given by on-site researchers. We are so pleased that our Peruvian travel agency, SETOURS, booked us at this amazing lodge. Don’t worry about the open sided room. The mosquito nets work well! You will feel very safe at this lodge! Everybody is attentive and kind. Read all
A 40 minute bus ride and 30 minute interesting boat ride from Puerto Maldonado bring you to this lodge on the Tambopata River, managed and staffed by the Ese Eja community. A canopy tower, oxbow lake, clay lick and jungle trails are all located at or nearby. Researchers give short lectures and opportunity to participate in citizen science. Food is great, rooms are clean with mosquito nets. Experience birds and jungle sounds from your room. Our guide Luis M. showed us birds and other aspects of the rainforest we wouldn’t have noticed without his keen eyes and ears. Everybody is very kind and helpful. This experience was included in our itinerary by SETOURS, a great Peruvian travel agency. Read all

very well maintained rooms, staff attentive. Food was good with healthy vegetarian options . well-planned tours and activities, although some activities like river otter view could be a little shorter. Our guide Joswell was very professional, knowledgeable and dedicated to his job. we had a good time on the tours with his instructions and also ended up with great pictures from his telescope. lack of airconditioning bothered us a little during the afternoon although that is expected at an ecolodge. Excellent experience and would recommend it highly Read all
100% Recommend (even with a child) We had an amazing experience during our 4-nights stay at Posada Amazonas with our family (2 adults, 1 child 2.5 years old). The location is wonderful; really within the jungle and only 1.5 hours from Puerto Maldonado. The food was very good and varied. They catered to vegetarians. The rooms were extremely clean, well maintained and serviced routinely. Special mention to the staff who were extremely kind and helpful, especially Cesar the manager. Our guide, Oscar, was super knowledgeable. He helped us understand the rainforest and everything we saw. We had a small child with us and loved it. No problems whatsoever. If you are considering it, please do it. The child will enjoy it too. If you are considering visiting, I highly recommend it. It is beautifully surrounded by nature and gives back to the indigenous community. We absolutely loved it!!! Read all
