Read all
Had an amazing stay of 3 nights here. Guide (Lucia) was fantastic, even having a phone attachment to allow you to take photos through her telescope and get fantastic shots, and much of the trip was solo with her. The lodge had blazing fast wifi, mix of craft beers, and was very comfortable (as long as you don't mind the odd butterfly or frog wandering into your room). Friendly service and really well organized w/ lots of variety of things to do - I happened to stumble across a giant Harpy Eagle right outside the lodge, just incredible. Only thing that could be improved is more variety of food and condiments to spice it up, but it is in the middle of the rainforest after all Read all
A fantastic experience where you felt you were deep in the rainforest. A lengthy trip involving coach and boat but the prize is worth it - the fact that the lodge is remote gives the increased likelihood of wildlife sightings. So much to do on structured visits - we were out with another family of four. As ever with this sort of trip your guide is crucial and Alan was the perfect guide for us and made the trip perfect. Pros: - Macaw Clay lick trip is a stunning experience and the true highlight - lots of other great trips including the canopy tower, sunset from the overlook, mountain biking, oxbow lake, night walk and botanical garden (really interesting!) - rooms are beautiful and open to the jungle on one side Cons: - Really cold at night in August in bed and the single blanket was not really enough - Food options at the buffet seemed to run out very quickly when the lodge was busy No issues with bugs in August which was a real positive - we just had long trousers and sleeves to keep protected just in case Read all
Great place for a whirlwind 48 hours. Super fun activities (we saw so many cool things on the night walk, and the Amazon mountain biking experience was a surprising highlight ... aside from the clay lick, which is a must-do). Our guide Dennys was incredible with good sighting skills and an uncanny ability to find just about everything we wanted to see. My only issue might be that while Dennys was awesome, we had to schedule with another group the activities to do with our one guide, rather than having options of various planned activities at set times. But, we were able to sneak in everything we wanted to do, so it worked out (though we pushed Dennys pretty hard). The meals were AWESOME - much better than my expectation. Keep in mind - it can be HOT with high humidity. We tried to wear long sleeves to avoid bites (on top of the anti-malarial pills), but I might not bother with sleeves if I did it again. Read all
We spent four nights in this Amazonian eco lodge near the Tambopata River. It was an incredible experience made better by the Lodge itself. From the pickup at the Puerto Maldonado airport to bringing us back to their admin office near the airport it was all first class. It is expensive, but worth the price. Food was amazing. Rooms were well appointed. The guides were top calibre. Many activities to choose from inclusive of the famous Clay Lick on the river. We learned so much and saw so much flora and fauna that can only be experienced being in the jungle. The lodge has great employees and they are all trying to make this a unique and memorable time. Highly recommend this lodge that borders their national park. Read all
This place was awesome. Fantastic spot in the jungle, heaps of tours around and the food/drinks they supplied were amazing. Buffets three times in the jungle, as well as fruit/snacks/water/juice available around. Saw a bunch of wildlife, even some monkeys practically in the lodge. Rooms were good, no windows so open air experience. Naturally with the heat, can be hard to moderate temps but the bugs are kept away by mosquito nets on your bed. Highly recommend this place if you can deal with a few insects at night around the lodge. Read all

Read all
Definitely not a three star hotel. Amazing experience. Very family friendly the kids did not want to leave. The meals were delicious and very suitable for anyone with dietary restrictions. Our guide Eddie was amazing! 5/5 experience.. would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to experience the Amazon with younger kids. Rooms: The rooms are excellent, but open air.. or the rooms are open to the outdoors, no windows or screens other than mosquito netting over the beds. Nearby activities: Too many to mention, one notable activity we did was the macaw clay lick tour that left the property at 4:30 am. Nothing like cruising down Tambopata in pitch darkness! What a thrill. Safety: Nothing to worry about other than maybe a howler monkey or frog coming to visit your room Walkability: There were tours around the property that are included in the price of the stay. Our guide was excellent. Food & drinks: The food was top class, fresh and prepared with love and attention. Lots of options for people with dietary restrictions. Read all
We stayed at the Refugio Amazonas Lodge for 3 nights in July. This was planned as the last leg of our 13 day Peruvian family vacation (there were 4 of us), and we still couldn't decide what we love more: Machu Picchu or the Amazon jungle experience. Paul was our guide, and being a native of the Tambopata region, he is very knowledgeable about the animals, insects, and medicinal use of native plants in the area. Refugio Amazonas has a list of activities for guests to pick from each day, which includes taking a boat out to the clay lick for macaws, hiking out to the observation tower above the forest canopy, night hikes, medicinal plant tour, etc. Paul added his own flavor to these activities, including luring out a tarantula from its den, pointing out the cicada nests, and showing us the jaguar tracks. It's amazing how he can recognize the sounds of so many species of monkeys and birds, before they come into view. Back at the lodge, we enjoyed the hospitality of the staff and the meals. One of the highlights was watching the baby crested eagle in its nest. We went back two days in a row to observe the very rare baby eagle, and really enjoyed talking to the biologist stationed at the lodge. This place is a real gem for anyone who is a first-timer to the Amazon! Read all
The Refugio is a beautifully established place to stay and experience the rain forests of the Madre De Dios region in Peru’s Amazonian rainforest. The rooms are open and airy and comfortable and the food was excellent, as was the well-stocked bar. We really felt we had spent time in the rain forest and not just as visitors but as residents. We were well-cared for from arrival to departure and very happy with our guides, Dennis and Alan. The activities - hikes, crafts, lecture, boat trips - are well thought out and fully occupied our days. Be aware that in May-August the “friaje” can make this a cooler place and so equip yourself accordingly - raincoats and fleeces - but they have boots to borrow for days when the ground is wet or muddy. Nearby activities: Hikes, boat rides, arts and crafts, lectures Read all
