AmazonCam Tambopata
As you collect each camera’s data, your anticipation grows. What will you discover? The rainforest is dense and silent, but you know that mammals are hiding all around the area. An incredible creature — a Giant Anteater, or maybe even a whole herd of jungle pigs — might’ve been here just a few hours ago. Back at the lodge, you’ll find out what amazing wildlife has paid the camera traps a visit. This is the AmazonCam Tambopata: a unique way for science-lovers to learn about modern science and explore the jungle.
Our AmazonCam project is a Big Grid built to answer Big Questions. Due to our Tambopata region of the Amazon rainforest’s remarkable biodiversity, it’s a fantastic place to spot and study wildlife. Because of this, we often collaborate with scientists. In fact, with our AmazonCam project, we’ve set up over 100 cameras to capture shy jungle wildlife. The subtly placed cameras often snap animals, especially mammals, that people rarely see elsewhere.
During your Rainforest Expeditions stay, you can become a Citizen Scientist and explore the world of secret camera traps! You’ll accompany our researchers around the Mammal Clay Lick, a hotspot for visits from Peccaries, birds, rodents, and even big cats like Jaguars. As you help scientists collect data from the camera traps and install new cameras, you’ll learn all about their exciting work. Finally, you’ll study the captured footage and discover what rare, fascinating animals the cameras captured. With the AmazonCam and other Citizen Science activities, you can help make science happen!
