Days 4 Dificulty I Lodge Posada Amazonas
Type Cultural Amazon Experience Type group size 1-10 Best season May - October

Day 1: Welcome to Tambopata!

  • Arriving in Puerto Maldonado, capital of Madre de Dios, join the transfer of 1 hour by bus and one hour by boat to the lodge. Your first tasting of our Amazonian cuisine will be during the boat trip, while you leave the city behind and enjoy the incredible landscapes during the tour.

  • What to expect at Posada Amazonas? - Strategically built in the heart of the private reserve of the Native Community of Infierno, as guardians of the forest, you will find this beautiful Posada Amazonas lodge, which has all the amenities such as a bar, massage room, and service dining room, to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

  • What is included in the accommodation? - A 45 m2 room, with mosquito nets over the beds, a private bathroom, and a window open to the forest, maximizes contact with nature.

  • What is included during your stay? - Three daily meals, teas, coffee, activities and guided excursions, welcome drink upon arrival at the hostel, transfers to and from the airport. Guides are assigned in a ratio of 10: 1

  • A half-hour walk from the lodge takes us to the 42-meter high canopy tower a staircase with railings will provide us with safe access to the top of the tower, from which we can contemplate the impressive forest of the National Reserve of Tambopata. From the top, it is also possible to observe different species of birds such as toucans, macaws, raptors among other species.

  • Learn about Posada Amazonas a successful adventure between a native community and a private company.

Day 2

  • In the Amazon, we take advantage of the first lights of the day, which is when there is more wildlife activity, even if you are on vacation, our guides will encourage you to get up very early to embark on the adventure!

  • Lake Tres Chimbadas, thirty minutes by boat and forty-five minutes from Posada Amazonas, is an expedition that you should not miss! We will sail on a catamaran in search of wildlife such as the hoatzin or Shansho who is said to be a prehistoric bird! Alligators, the kingfisher among other species, if we are lucky we will be able to observe a family of giant river wolves that inhabit its waters (seen by 60% of visitors to the lake).

  • Very close to the lodge there is a hiding place that allows us to observe the parrot clay; from about twenty meters away, where dozens of parrots and parakeets descend almost every morning to eat clay, which provides them with the precious sodium they need for their digestion.

  • Centro Ñape Communal organization that produces natural medicine with forest plants, has a small medical center where they are administered to local people. You can walk the trails where the different plants and their healing properties are shown and explained.

  • You will have the opportunity of a night walk in the middle of the forest, it is incredible the number of different sounds that can be heard in nature at this time of day. Many mammals are active at this time but are rarely seen. Much easier to find are the tiny frogs.

Day 3

  • Discover Amazing Tropical Plants: At the jungle farm, you’ll get to find out how your favorite tropical foods are grown and you’ll discover entirely new foods! Farmers will explain how and why they organically grow a great variety of crops. Finally, you get to see, smell, touch, and taste fruits you’ve never even heard of, like Copuazu, “Fish-eye” Chilis, and Cocona.

  • Traditional kitchen Ese Eja. Patarascha is a traditional dish of the native Amazonian communities. It is about cooking the fish in a bijao leaf (plantain family) seasoned with local elements such as sachaculantro. Through this culinary experience, you will be able to know, touch, smell, and learn to prepare a traditional dish with local elements.

  • Ceiba Trees are miraculous in every way. The trees’ softwood protects them from loggers, who look for more durable wood types, and Ceibas’ fast growth rate helps them rise to immense proportions. As you’ll see, this tree’s buttressed root system stretches so far, it would take 50 people holding hands to encircle it! When you arrive at the massive tree, you’ll discover Ceiba’s historical and spiritual significance for native peoples throughout the Amazon

Day 4

  • Our expedition came to an end. It’s time to say goodbye! We will return to the airport for your domestic flight.

  • Thank you for your visit. It contributes directly to the effort made by the Native Community of Infierno to sustainably protect their lands in Tambopata.

The lodge is located in the middle of the forest accessible only by boat. The experience was very unique and exciting. Service is great, and the fun part are the nature activities and tours the hotel offers for free. We had an amazing tour guide that had a lot of knowledge and was fun to spend time with. The rooms are totally open to the forest which is really cool the struggle is the there is no privacy at all in between the rooms, also food was pretty basic. All together a very unique experience. This hotel is the perfect blend of comfort and hospitality, with the natural experience. The hotel is reached by a hours boat ride from Puerto Maldonado, expertly organized and accomplished. Most staff are members of the local Esa Ejja community. The food is good and plentiful. Hot water is always available and lovely bedding features mosquito nets. There is of course no air conditioning (one side wall is open in rach room) and the electricity is off for a few hours at night affecting overhead fans, so I was glad to have brought a small battery powered fan for sleeping. But the best of the experience is the wildlife. Our expert guide Oscar Mishaja introduced us to nearly 100 bird species, along with caimans, river otters, poison dart frogs and capybara. A trip of a lifetime. Read all

Read all
