Posada Amazonas – Suggested Expedition 5 days / 4 nights
PERUVIAN AMAZON TOURS
Day 1: Welcome to the Amazon!
- Arrive in Puerto Maldonado, the capital of Madre de Dios, and join a 2 hours journey by bus and boat to the lodge. Your first taste of the Amazon cuisine will be in the river while you leave the city behind to enjoy the amazing jungle landscapes
- Posada Amazonas Lodge awaits – a spacious ecolodge, with a bar, a massage center, and buffet service in the heart of a private concession owned by the Native Community of Infierno, the guardians of the rainforest.
- Accommodation includes a 45 ms square room with a private bathroom and an open wall facing the forest.
- Your stay includes three meals daily, tea, coffee, guided excursions and activities, refreshments upon arriving, and transfers to and from the airport. We assign guides at 10:1
- This afternoon join a first group hiking leads to the 40-meter scaffolding Canopy Tower. A banister staircase running through the middle provides safe access to the platforms above. From atop you obtain spectacular views of the vast expanses of standing forest cut by the Tambopata River winding through the middle. Now and then toucans, parrots, or macaws are seen flying against the horizon, or mixed species canopy flocks land in the treetop next to you.
Day 2
Wildlife in the Amazon takes advantage of the first lights of the day as it is cooler, so we do. Even if you are on vacation there will be some activities that our guides encourage you to make it very early in the morning and it’s worth it.
- Tres Chimbadas Lake is thirty minutes by boat and forty-five minutes hiking from Posada Amazonas. Once there paddle around the lake in a catamaran, searching for the resident family of nine giant river otters (seen by 60% of our lake visitors) and other lakeside wildlife such as caiman, hoatzin, and horned screamers. Otters are most active from dawn to eight or nine AM.
- The Centro Ñape is a communal organization that produces medicines out of forest plants and administers them to patients who choose their little clinic. They have produced a trail that explains the different medicinal (and other) uses of selected plants.
- You will have the option of hiking out at night when most of the mammals are active but rarely seen. It is much easier to find frogs with shapes and sounds as bizarre as their natural histories.
Day 3
- From a blind located about twenty meters away, you might see dozens of parrots and parakeets descend on most clear mornings to ingest the clay on a riverbank when visiting the Parrot Clay Lick

- Leaving from Posada Amazonas on a two-hour hike crowned by the largest tree in the vicinity: a giant ceiba tree. During the hike, you will focus on the natural history of the rainforest and its principal taxonomic groups.
- Visit the most complete farm in the community of Infierno. The owner grows a diverse variety of popular and unknown Amazon crops. In his garden, just about every plant and tree serves a purpose
Day 4
- A few minute's hike from the lodge is a beautiful natural old-growth patch of Brazil Nut forest that has been harvested for decades (if not centuries) where the precarious remains of a camp used two months a year by Brazil Nut gatherers can still be experienced. We will be demonstrating the whole process of the rain forest’s only sustainably harvested product from collection through transportation to drying.
- Walk along the Tambopata River toward the Overlook Trail. You will be able to separate a Terra Firme Forest from a Secondary Forest after this walk, as the trail crosses both habitats. Resting on the benches you can witness the Tambopata on its unhurried journey across the lowland rainforest.
Day 5
- It is time to say goodbye, as the expedition comes to an end.
- Your visit will make a direct contribution to the Native Community of Infierno in their efforts to protect Tambopata.
- You will take the journey back to the city to the airport for your national flight onwards.

The lodge is located in the middle of the forest accessible only by boat. The experience was very unique and exciting. Service is great, and the fun part are the nature activities and tours the hotel offers for free. We had an amazing tour guide that had a lot of knowledge and was fun to spend time with. The rooms are totally open to the forest which is really cool the struggle is the there is no privacy at all in between the rooms, also food was pretty basic. All together a very unique experience. This hotel is the perfect blend of comfort and hospitality, with the natural experience. The hotel is reached by a hours boat ride from Puerto Maldonado, expertly organized and accomplished. Most staff are members of the local Esa Ejja community. The food is good and plentiful. Hot water is always available and lovely bedding features mosquito nets. There is of course no air conditioning (one side wall is open in rach room) and the electricity is off for a few hours at night affecting overhead fans, so I was glad to have brought a small battery powered fan for sleeping. But the best of the experience is the wildlife. Our expert guide Oscar Mishaja introduced us to nearly 100 bird species, along with caimans, river otters, poison dart frogs and capybara. A trip of a lifetime. Read all

Huge shout out to our guide Boris who went out of his way to ensure we had a good experience and got to watch all kinds of wild life. The meals and cocktails were delicious. And even though this place is smack in the middle of the jungle there was super fast WiFi available. We made unforgettable memories. Read all

Read all
