Tambopata Research Center Lodge Manager

Hello, I’m Aixa Bances, the Tambopata Research Center lodge manager. My connection with nature began in high school when I visited Lake Sandoval through an environmental education program. There, I discovered the incredible biodiversity of the area and its importance for conservation, sparking a deep admiration for the Amazon.

My journey with Rainforest Expeditions started in 2012 as an accounting assistant while finishing university. Later, I took on the role of quality manager at TRC, and after a break to complete my studies, I returned in 2018. After the pandemic, I came back with more experience and enthusiasm to take on the challenge of managing Tambopata Research Center, applying everything I’ve learned over the years.

What I love most about TRC is seeing how travelers from all over the world, despite their cultural differences, share the same love for nature. Here, tourism and conservation go hand in hand through citizen science projects like Wired Amazon, where visitors have helped discover new species and monitor wildlife. Knowing that my work contributes to preserving this place is truly fulfilling.

If you had just one day at TRC, I’d recommend the canopy tower, where the rainforest reveals itself in all its splendor. My favorite species is the blue Morpho butterfly, which symbolizes transformation and growth—a reflection of my own journey. On my days off, I recharge my energy, but the jungle is always present in my life.

I speak advanced English, basic French, and basic Italian.
